Remember When?

lyrics

Are you ready for an historical song?
We’re going way back to when I was young

I can still remember when we played down on the railway tracks
And I can still remember when we used to think that life was flaxen
I can still remember all the things we used to say
I can still remember all the games we used to play, yesterday

And I remember bouncing at the Roxy on a Friday night
And I remember punking up my flares ‘til they were oh so tight
I remember talking ‘til it dawned a brand new day
Don’t remember wondering’ how we found so much to say, yesterday

You and I were going to be together ever more
You and I were going to take this world and many more
We were never ever going to let them get us down
We were never ever going to ever leave this town, yeah, that town

Well take a look back now at my own teens
Were things quite as they’d have you believe
Or are they only rose tinted memories?
Looking now back to the sixties, fading darkly into the seventies
How I miss those rose tinted memories, but now they’re gone

A three day week, power cuts and bathing in the dark
Rugger bullies, leprosy and perverts down the park
Drinking cheapo lager and pretending this was it
Then you miss the last bus and you’re waking in your own vomit

Doing it the first time, pretending it was great
Then a week of worrying when you told me you were late
Thumbs up means the all clear but was it worth the fuss
Standing on your doorstep and again I’ve missed that bus
And it’s a long walk home

Take a look back now at your own teens
Was it really rainbows and sunbeams
Or maybe that’s rose tinted memories?
I bet you’re thinking now?
Was it great just like in the movies
Friends forever, why don’t they call me?
Do you miss these rose tinted memories?
Yeah, me too
