A man is walking bare-foot heading straight out for the sun I don’t know where he’s come from Got no home no family no keys he got no car In this land of opportunity he’ll take his chance Surrounded by four horse-men in priestly robes of white Don’t need to know the story now of who’s wrong or right I’ve seen the movies so I know how it must end The black hats as the enemy, the white hats as your friend and saviours Take a walk across America, tell me what do you see? Take a walk across America, it’s on TV There Jesus Christ had blonde hair and of course his eyes were blue Cos those who seek the ultimate try first in Hollywood They say they’ve seen the future cos it’s written on the walls And if it costs a billion bucks it’s good for one and all You know they’re telling stories, you so want them to be true But if you shared it in the real world, no-one would believe you No need to leave your couch again, why travel there at all? And now that you can stream it, well isn’t that a ball? Come with me, Take a walk across America, tell me, what do you see? Take a walk across America, not just TV When the pressure gets on top of you just plug in to the tube Turn it up and breathe it in no way that you can lose Be it Hutch or be it Starsky, Ironside or old Five-O They all believe it’s homicide, what do they know? Quince did the autopsy and the story’s in the Trib He died of his naivety when he saw the script Small guy v corporation, you’ve seen it too Coz when he tried out in real life, that was the end of Lou Take a walk across America, tell me, what do you see? Take a walk across America, it’s just TV

This man wants me to put a cross by his name He stands on the doorstep and smiles so brightly His eyes are sparkling can’t be much over 23 Perhaps he still believes the dream This man is older and bolder with his years Says we’ve lived through harder times than these No compassion all he wants is all he sees Hates this interruption to his climb just a waste of time say Oh there’s got to be someway better than this Some other way to play the game I can’t see too much changing Whoever wins the game it always stays the same This guy says he still got some years on me That no schooling can ever steal But if I work hard and fit into my place I could be him in years from now And so the wheel turns and nothing ever changes As the rebels become respectable Like the bad boys made prefect they snap up their new found power Become the Marshalls of this rat race Oh there’s got to be someway better than this Some other way to play the game I can’t see too much changing Whoever wins the game it always stays the same I read of a town they named after Jesus Where they tell of my dreams of a way of life Should I sail and put my name upon their list Or do I stay and fight the fight? I remember the old song That shining steeple that sword in my hand Oh but this ain’t no Jerusalem And the grass ain’t growing as we planned Oh there’s got to be some way better than this Though what it is I do not know What happened to that other country? I dreamed of long ago so long ago?

I don’t believe we’ve met I’m the eternal soldier I hear them preaching of the great things I have done Scorched to hell or burned to a cinder With battle-axe or spear or tommy gun You wouldn’t know me in the street I’m just an ordinary guy Wouldn’t give me a second glance You’d just, pass on by, pass on by Aint no pro ‘tween the wars I work the railways Farm the land or work in some factory But for my love for my laird or for my country You’ll find me there with my life to lay at your feet You wouldn’t know me in the street I’m just an ordinary guy Wouldn’t give me a second glance You’d just, pass on by, pass on by I come home blind and soon forgotten Where is this land fit for heroes we thought we’d won Nothing changes we’re always forgotten Until next time then again we’re your number one You wouldn’t know me in the street I’m just an ordinary guy Wouldn’t give me a second glance You’d just, pass on by, pass on by

Dead Men 04:20
Dead men tell no secrets, they can be lies They can be heroes or so despised Die for their country or detray all they should love Roast in hell or reign so high above Dead men, it’s all surmise But, if it’s in the papers, I guess it must be true There’ll be a new enquiry, I heard it on the news Such a shame, this suicide But the guy was crazy, it was in his eyes In time we could have saved him from his internal hell But left him for a minute, now he’s hanging in a cell Dead Men, it’s all surmise If it’s in the papers, I guess it must be true There’ll be a new enquiry, I heard it on the news So who knows, what happened on the rock The years pass by, is it all so easily forgot? Well I can know what I read in the print Or on the TV when I don’t even want to think Dead men, it’s all surmise If it’s in the papers, I guess it must be true There’ll be a new enquiry, I heard it on the news I heard it on the news I heard it on the news

about

Back in the late 1980's I was in a badly named but actually quite good band. Sadly we never recorded anything back then and I've been meaning to return to some of the songs ever since.....so here are my four favourites.
Fond memories and cheers to Ian, Barry and Tony.....hope you're all still making music out there too!
